Mikel Arteta says he and his Arsenal players are not feeling sorry for themselves. Despite a number of key players picking up injuries ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

The Gunners will be without captain Martin Ødegaard. Who has missed the last nine games with an injury sustained on international duty. With Norway during the September break, and Bukayo Saka limped off in England’s defeat to Greece earlier this month.UFABET

There are also concerns over the fitness of Riccardo Calafiori after he was substituted in Arsenal win over Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek, and Jerrian Timber has missed the last three games with a muscle problem.

Centre-back William Saliba is also suspended, meaning Arteta could be left with five key players missing from his squad to face the Reds.

“This is a game,” Arteta said.

“Of course we don’t want to be in this situation. But we are really lucky to have the team we have, the players we have, the attitude we have.”

“When faced with a difficult situation, don’t feel sorry for yourself. Face it.”

“We are a team that knows how good we are and how much we can make it difficult for our opponents. Having a ruthless spirit in the team is something I like.”

Arteta has described the situation surrounding injured trio Saka, Calafiori and Timber as “very uncertain”. But has kept his thoughts on replacing the suspended Saliba private.

Arteta added:

“We have other options (at the back)”

“The partnership between Saliba and Gabriel is very solid but we have to find a way out. There is a lot going on in defence but we have to adapt to that and a versatile player is very useful.”

“We have a day off after the Champions League and two days to prepare.”

“It’s a big game, a big opportunity and we love these games at the Emirates. The team is looking forward to it.”

“We have to keep playing with possession and belief. Our belief, energy and commitment are essential for a big game like this.”

“Arne Slot’s start is very good. They are in a great moment and are going strong. They are a team that has been competing at a high level for 9 years.”
